Break points and a good debugger

It would be awesome if we could get breakpoints, variable inspection and step over / step into features.

Here Here! Maybe in 8.4?

This feature should have been available from 1.1 not 8.1!

I think that, such a great framework as Ignition, deserves an IDE more aligned with modern times. Probably an agreement with Eclipse or any other open IDE is possible. It wolud be nice integrating Eclipse as Ignition IDE allowing the project library import and having access to the Ignition System Functions. Debugging, profiling, syntax check, autocomplete, ... are features that Iexpect from Ignition in next Releases.

Break points in the Designer's script console are planned for an 8.0/8.1 time frame.

Kathy A.: Hello Kathy,
Now that Ignition is at 8.0/8.1... Could you provide an update on this feature? Thanks

Kathy A.: Bump! Trying to debug complex scripts is an utter nightmare :(

Kathy A.: planned for 8.0/8.1 but we are on 8.1.24 now and no sign of this yet. It doesn't even show if it's 'under review', 'planned', or 'in progress'. Any update on this?

8.1.37 still nothing, no official answer from IA in the forum:
Maybe forum users are right in saying we will never get that fundamental feature. Really disappointed about that

Add a better editor as well, maybe notepad++ ??

David.anderson: Or something capable of using vi/vim
Kathy A.
David.anderson: Project resources are moving to the file system. Probably not by 8.0.0, but soon after, scripts will be stored in plain text and you will be able to use the editor of your choice.

Kathy A.:
What about a Remote Debugger API? For example so we can you Visual Studio Code to externally set break points and get information about runtime errors, and runtime status while the code is executing?
n

Ben Newman: This would be amazing, but in-house debugger would still be the best option for most people.

Kathy A.: That is the wrong direction. A good HMI should have the proper tools included. Ignition should have a fully functional script authoring UI as part of the package, especially given the amount of scripting that is/can be done. Using an external editor is passing the buck and does not lend itself to debugging tools. Do Ignition employees even look at feature requests more than once a year?
